Using chatbots like Gemini and ChatGPT
We will show how AI can be a helpful assistant rather than just a “machine.” We will focus on Voice 🎤 and Image 📷 features.
Let’s explore some activities that will get them excited and AI-literate.
1. The “Magic Microphone” (Speaking Practice) 🎤
Instead of typing, have students use the Microphone icon to talk to the AI. This is great for those still learning to use a keyboard.
- Activity: Ask the AI to help with an English sentence.
- English Prompt: “How do I say ‘I like to play football’ in Hindi?”
- Hindi Prompt: “ChatGPT, ‘मुझे स्कूल जाना पसंद है’ को इंग्लिश में कैसे कहेंगे?”
- Goal: Students see that the AI understands their voice and can help them translate thoughts instantly.
2. The Village Storyteller (Creativity) 📖
AI is amazing at storytelling. Let the students “co-write” a story about their own life or village.
- Activity: Start a story and let the AI finish it.
- Hindi Prompt: “एक छोटे से गाँव में एक जादुई बैल (magic bull) रहता था… आगे क्या हुआ? एक छोटी कहानी बताओ।”
- English Prompt: “Tell a story about a brave girl in a village who finds a hidden treasure. Keep it simple.”
- Goal: To show that AI can “imagine” things based on the patterns it has learned.
3. Science Detective (Using the Camera) 🔍
If you are using the Gemini app or ChatGPT on a phone, students can take photos of things around them.
- Activity: Take a photo of a leaf 🍃, a tool, or a diagram in their textbook.
- Task: Ask the AI, “What is this?” or “How does this plant grow?”
- Goal: Understanding that AI can “see” and identify objects, connecting the digital world to their physical environment.
4. The “Is it True?” Game (Fact-Checking) 🧐
This is the most important part of AI Literacy. Explain that AI sometimes makes mistakes (called “hallucinations”).
- Activity: Ask the AI a question with a “trick” or a very local fact.
- Prompt: “Who is the sarpanch (head) of our village?”
- Learning Moment: The AI likely won’t know! When it gives a wrong answer or says it doesn’t know, explain to the students that they are the experts on their own village, not the machine.
Tips for Teaching:
- Use Icons: Instead of saying “Type this,” point to the Microphone 🎤 or Camera 📷 icons.
- Think of AI as a ‘Friend’: Tell them it’s like a friend who has read every book in the world but sometimes forgets small details.
How do you think they will react to the AI “seeing” things through the camera? Which of these activities do you think would be the most exciting for your 8th graders to try first?

Concept to re-iterate
- 🤔 Important: AI is a helper, not always correct. / AI मददगार है, लेकिन हमेशा सही नहीं।
